Michiganders Could Get Their $400 Ins Refund Checks This Week

Keep an eye on your bank account this week as you may end up with an extra $400 in there.

If your vehicle was insured by Oct. 31, 2021, get ready, you've got some cash coming your way within the next 60 days. According to Fox 2, the $400 refund is part of the bipartisan auto reform legislation passed in 2019 that requires the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) to issue money back to drivers.

If you remember, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer first announced back in December that refunds would be transferred from the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association to insurers by March 9. So, that doesn't necessarily mean your getting that $400 right away, but it is possible.

Anita Fox, Department of Insurance and Financial Services:

The Governor directed DIFS to take an active role in ensuring that refunds would be issued expeditiously to Michiganders who have paid into the fund for decades. The DIFS bulletin ensures that consumers are protected and imposes a May 9, 2022 deadline for issuing refunds to all eligible drivers.

If you insured your vehicle by 11:59 p.m. Oct. 31, 2021, you're eligible for the refund.

If for whatever reason, you don't get a physical check or you don't see the $400 automatically deposited into your account by the May 9th deadline, just reach out to your insurance company.

While it's not guaranteed that you'll see the money this week, just know, it is coming.
