Michigan’s Favorite Thanksgiving Side Dish
I feel like Thanksgiving is one holiday that most everyone enjoys. Not a lot of stress, no presents to buy - just eat, drink, repeat. Oh, and watch football. What is not to love about it?
When it comes to the meal itself, there are a few staples for most of our Thanksgiving dinners. Turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing, and green bean casserole. Turns out, of all those sides - green bean casserole earns top billing. By reviewing Google searches from last year, Zippa determined green bean casserole is Michigan's favorite Thanksgiving side dish.
It is not the result that surprises me, it is the fact that people Google 'green bean casserole'. I am no chef, but even I know how to make it. Green beans, cream of mushroom soup, and those crispy onion things. I actually made it in the car one year, on the way to my family dinner. True story. We still laugh about it, but after my 'cooking in the car' story - I was told to just bring dinner rolls and wine.
Michigan is not the only state that loves green bean casserole on Thanksgiving. The dish is also a favorite in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Ohio, and Idaho. Can you believe mashed potatoes was not the favorite in Idaho? Too funny.
Who knows what this Thanksgiving will look like for us. Will we be with friends and family, or celebrating in quarantine? If quarantine is the case, I am starting a new Thanksgiving tradition that involves tacos and tequila.
