The mother of a young girl whose remains were found in a duffel bag in Oregon was arrested during a traffic stop in Detroit.

Police Arrest the Girl's Mother and Her Girlfriend

Authorities arrested 28-year-old Shawna Browning and her girlfriend, 33-year-old Lauren Harrison on Tuesday (11/30). Both women have been charged with aggravated murder for killing Browning's daughter, 9-year-old Haley Mae Coblentz, according to the Oregon State Police.

Girl's Remains Stuffed Into a Duffel Bag

Nearly a year ago on December 10, 2020, police discovered the body of a young girl that had been put into a duffel bag and hidden in a forest near a rest stop in Lincoln County, Oregon.

Because the body had gone undiscovered for 30 to 60 days, detectives were not able to determine much about the victim and had DNA samples tested. It wasn't until October of this year that the girl was identified as Coblentz who was nine years old at the time of her death.

Law & Crime reports that the girl had never been enrolled in school and that her mother and her longtime partner had never reported the little girl missing.

Oregon State Police Team Up With FBI Detroit

"We were able to find them with the help of FBI Detroit and yesterday they did a traffic stop and took them both into custody," Capt. Stephanie Bigman tells KOIN-TV. "As a law enforcement officer, you're horrified and really just want to do everything possible to find those responsible for this."

Browning and Harrison are currently being held in Detroit, awaiting extradition to Oregon.
