A holiday weekend in Michigan means grilling. As we get set to celebrate Memorial Weekend, I am guessing that means a lot of hot dogs down the throats of Michiganders. It is okay to still serve ketchup and mustard, but you can really step up your hot dog game by adding some more unique toppings.

I am not much on the grill, or in the kitchen for that matter, but I can get creative in terms of toppings. I have used some of the toppings in this video prior to seeing it. You may think pineapple does not belong on a pizza, but I am telling you - it is damn good on a hot dog. Guacamole is another favorite of mine, I think guac is good on everything. If those two toppings don't do it for you how about the following combinations,

  • Doritos and mayonnaise
  • Coleslaw
  • Dijon mustard and pickles
  • Cream cheese and green onion
  • Bacon and melted mozzarella cheese
  • Pesto and cherry tomatoes
  • Caramelised onions and balsamic glaze (fancy)

You can see how all of the above combinations look, in the video above. Also, am I the only one who noticed most of the hot dogs in the video looked raw? Maybe she boiled them? Ugh.

Those are just a few suggestions. Don't forget about a Chicago Dog, or one of my favorites - the Coney Dog. I have also had a hot dog with soy sauce and carrot shavings. The options are endless when it comes to dressing your dog. Feel free to share some of your favorite toppings too, the stranger the better.

Have a great Memorial Weekend.
