Religion and Rock – It Worked Well in 1970
The popular musical Jesus Christ Superstar was first released as an album in 1970, surprisingly becoming a big hit, producing two successful singles, I Don't Know How To Love Him by Yvonne Elliman and Superstar by Murray Head. The album's strong rock flavor was due to many popular rock session musicians of the day being used, the overall rock opera feel which was popular then (Tommy was only a matter of months old) plus the Christ character played by Deep Purple's singer Ian Gillan. Revisiting the project on today's Vinyl Vault would be an appropriate homage to the upcoming Holiday. Hallelujah brothers and sisters! 5:20pm. Out of town? Listen live on-line.
