The 'Summer of Love' kicked into gear big time today in 1967 with day one of 'The Monterey Pop Festival' in Monterey, California. Three days of pop and rock combining forces into a historic music and cultural event. On June 16, 1967, the three day "Monterey Pop Festival" in California got underway.The Summer of Love was in full bloom. The festival saw the first major appearances in the U.S.A. from The Who, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.
