Drivers heading northbound on M-24 Monday morning heading to westbound I-69 need to think about a different route! The ramp onto the westbound freeway will be closed from 8am till 7pm Monday only! Workers are installing a storm sewer as part of the M-24 rebuilding project.

We've been dealing with the M-24 construction and it's detours and delays. Now, it appears that Phase II of the project is going to wait until next year. The project was initially delayed this spring because of the deep frost that kept the ground frozen nearly a month longer than expected, so it doesn't appear that there will be time to get the second phase in this summer.

Motorists and business owners are feeling the frustration as the M-24 construction process finishes it's second week. The nearly two-mile construction zone has been turned into one lane each way, with strictly enforced no left turn signs all along the route. Only turns at intersections are allowable and that is a flashpoint with some drivers who are just trying to stop and get gas.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has scheduled an informational meeting regarding proposed improvements on M-24, from south of I-69 to Nepessing Street in the city of Lapeer, and Lapeer Township. It is scheduled in two sessions for Monday, April 7th at 4pm, and again at 5:30pm at the Lapeer City Hall Commission Chambers.
