Two Small Children Found Home Alone In Lapeer

Police and Child Protective Services are investigating a possible child neglect case in Lapeer, where two small children, both under the age of three, were left alone in an apartment.

The mother allegedly left the children alone in an unlocked apartment Saturday evening while she went downtown to celebrate Lapeer Days. A neighbor reported hearing the children crying around midnight and called police. The children's mother, a 30 year-old woman had left the apartment about two hours earlier. Police found the woman a short time after being called and returned her to the apartment. The childens father took over care of the kids. The investigation is ongoing with both agencies.
