VIDEO: MSU Doctor Says Mosquitoes Can’t Give You Coronavirus
How many times and ways can we say this?
NO!
First, watch that video up there.
It features science from Dr. Edward Walker, Department of Entomology Professor, Michigan State University.
The answer is NO!
One more time for the people in the back.
NO!
We've said it before. We've even said it right here.
Consider the question asked and answered. Can mosquitos spread coronavirus?
No. The answer is no. You can stop reading if you like.
But the reason I'm bringing it back up now is because people are doing that thing again.
Where we present you with facts. We told you. And you still don't believe.
Like this. I saw it this past weekend.
And as Michiganders, it's about that time. For us to become the human buffet that is mosquito heaven.
I got bit this weekend. The first of many I'm sure.
So before we get all ramped and amped up about mosquitoes and coronavirus and such, let's roll out the facts ONE MORE TIME.
The pathogens mosquitoes spread by sucking our blood cause over half a million deaths each year and hundreds of millions of cases of severe illness.
But there is no scientific evidence to suggest mosquitoes are transmitting SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
There is much more to learn about the coronavirus but based on current understandings, it’s highly unlikely a mosquito will pick up the virus by biting an infected person, let alone be able to pass it on. (The Conversation)
But you're like...what about West Nile, Zika, Malaria...if a mosquito can spread that it SURELY CAN DO THE SAME WITH COVID-19 RIGHT?!?
Listen to the scientists my friends.
"For a mosquito to transmit it, the COVID virus would have to be in the circulatory system (blood) of the person bitten," after which the virus would need to reproduce inside the mosquito, which has never been shown to occur, explains Poston. After this, "the virus would need to go to the salivary glands of the mosquito" in order to infect another human through a bite. (Leann Poston, MD, of Ikon Health - MSN.com)
And straight from the horse's mouth.
At this time, CDC has no data to suggest that this new coronavirus or other similar coronaviruses are spread by mosquitoes or ticks. The main way that COVID-19 spreads is from person to person. See How Coronavirus Spreads for more information. (CDC)
