2015 Fuelwood Permits Now Available From Michigan DNR

April 1, marked the start of the Department of Natural Resources’ 2015 fuelwood season. The personal-use permits can be purchased any time now through December 31, 2015, in person or by mail. The permits are good for 90 days from the date of purchase. Bill O’Neill, DNR Forest Resources Division chief, reminds people who are looking for alternative home-heating options that the fuelwood permits are a good value for those willing to put in some work to gather wood.

Canoe Clinic – Canvassing the Wood and Canvas Canoe is happening at Seven Ponds Nature Center in Dryden this Saturday March 28, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.The clinic instructor, Dave Wermuth, is a life time resident of Lapeer. Dave is a member of The Wooden Canoe Heritage Association and has been a wooden canoe owner since 1997. Dave has restored about 20 canoes, some over 100 years old.

You’re invited to take a late winter walk at the center tomorrow morning (2/25) at 8 AM in search of a variety of species. There may also be enough open water for ducks and possibly the first wave of blackbirds. Watching will begin inside with winter finches and other feeder birds while enjoying hot beverages.
