Two people were killed and five others injured in a three-car collision Thursday afternoon in northern Macomb County, according to Michigan State Police.

Here's the report from The Macomb Daily.

Lt. Michael Shaw of the Michigan State Police   said investigators late Thursday were still trying to determine how the accident took place about 3:25 p.m. on M-53 near Bordman Road in Bruce Township. Witnesses said it appears there was a head-on crash involving two vehicles and a third vehicle was also somehow impacted in the wreck.

Shaw said the names of the victims would not be released until Friday morning as troopers were still trying to locate next of kin on the west side of the state.

One of the injured people was a child, believed to be 3 or 4 years old.

Bruce Township Fire Chief Ken Staelgraeve said fire crews worked to extricate the victims from the wreckage and then had paramedics provide immediate treatment before transporting the injured parties to the hospital.

“I’ve been on a lot of crash scenes, but this one was pretty difficult for our people, but we acted as quickly as we could,” Staelgraeve said.

Firefighters from Armada Township and Almont assisted Bruce fire crews.

The section of M-53 where the accident took place was closed for more than five hours while State Police accident reconstruction experts conducted an investigation.
