Allman Brothers Band

The Allman Brothers Band's most recent studio album will turn 10 next month, which is a long time even for a group of guys that would rather play live than record new music. Fortunately, according to drummer Butch Trucks, another record might be on the horizon.

Dan Toler, a southern rock guitar great who was part of the Allman Brothers Band family, has died near his hometown of Sarasota, Fla. He was 65.

The lineup for the second annual Peach Music Festival at Montage Mountain has been revealed. In addition to two performances from the Allman Brothers Band, fans can count on the Black Crowes, Bob Weir and RatDog and more at the Aug 15-18 outdoor festival.

Rounder Records has assembled and fine-tuned a massive box set of Duane Allman highlights for 'Skydog: The Duane Allman Retrospective.' The seven-disc box set will be available on March 5. It features 129 songs from his early days as a garage rocker through his time with the Allman Brothers Band.

Next month the Allman Brothers Band will release two live shows from their early '70s height as a southern rock superpower. Recordings from a show played just months after Duane Allman died, and another after the death of Berry Oakley show the group in very different incarnations.

Even though today's track came after Duane Allman's death, it always sounded to me like it could've been on the first or second Allman Brothers album.  'Southbound' has all the ingredients and feel of those magical early recordings, no doubt resting many fans concerns of how the band was going to be without Duane...

Today is World Hepatitis Day and last night the Allman Brothers Band rocked out for an awareness show on it.  You may recall that Gregg Allman had to undergo a liver transplant due to his own bout with the disease.
