"I don't need to be the king of the world / As long as I'm the hero of this little girl," sang Warrant's Jani Lane on their 1989 hit single "Heaven." Fast forward to 2017 and Lane's daughter Maddi has now covered the song as a tribute to her late father.

The late '80s power ballad definitely made its mark, but Maddi strips it back to an even more tender piano-based track, which she says may not be the final version she records. You can hear her version in the player below.

"This is a tribute to my dad, Jani Lane, from the band Warrant. This song was a classic and I decided to sing a cover for it. The final version will be uploaded sometime after Christmas, which will sound a little more professional, but here is what a friend and I did in a recording studio in one day (I may also be changing some of the lyrics to make it for a female)," says Maddi on her Soundcloud page, where she posted the song.

Lane is the daughter of the Warrant singer and actress Rowanne Brewer. The couple wed in 1996 and split in 2005. Jani passed at the age of 47 in 2011. Maddi, a 20-year-old aspiring vocalist, included a photo of herself with Lane as a toddler on her Soundcloud file. You can see what she looks like now via a recent Facebook profile photo below.

"Heaven" appeared on Warrant's 1989 debut album, Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich, and was their second single after "Down Boys." The track climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 3 on the Mainstream Rock Chart.
