The trial for a man accused of attempted murder begins today with the jury selection process. Aaron J. Berthon, 23, from Imlay City is accused of savagely beating a 31 year-old woman on December 29th.

Lapeer County Prosecutor Tim Turkelson expects the jury selection to begin about 10:30am, possibly followed by the opening statement. There are five or six witnesses expected to testify. The alleged beating happened at the woman's East Third Street apartment and Imlay City Police reported that the woman was badly beaten by Berthon, her neighbor a second time after her found her in the street while on her way to the police. She was beaten until she blacked out.

Berthon is being held in the Lapeer County Jail without bond.
