Three students have been killed, eight other people are injured and a suspected shooter is in custody after a shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan on Tuesday.

News of the shooting flooded social media shortly after the first 911 calls went out just before 1 pm. Facebook feeds were filled with posts learning about the "active shooter" situation and the immediate heavy police presence in and around the high school.

Who Were the Victims of the Oxford High School Shooting?

This morning, we are learning more about the incident, and the victims. Lost in the tragedy were Tate Myre, 16; Hana St. Juliana, 14, and Madisyn Baldwin, 17. According to reports,  Myre, a “standout” football player at the school, died from his wounds on the way to the hospital in the back of a patrol car.

Social media is hailing Myre as a hero during the shooting. Reports say that Myre was shot while trying to disarm the shooter. An online petition to rename the football stadium in his honor has started circulating late Tuesday and has already reached nearly 34,000 signatures.

"Tate is not just a hero to his fellow students at Oxford high school but a legend, his act of bravery should be remembered forever and passed down through generations, he put his life in danger to try and help the thousands of other students at Oxford High School," the change.org petition states.

Those Injured During the Oxford High School Shooting

According to Mid-Michigan NOW, this is the current update on those injured which includes seven students and one teacher who were hospitalized and injured.

  • A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head
  • A 14-year-old boy in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the jaw and hand
  • A 17-year-old girl in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the neck
  • A 15-year-old boy in stable condition left leg gunshot wound
  • A 17-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the hip
  • A 14-year-old girl with a left chest and neck gunshot wound
  • A 17-year-old girl with a chest gunshot wound
  • A 47-year-old teacher who has been discharged from the hospital

Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe said at a news conference that investigators were still trying to determine what the 15-year-old suspect's motive was behind the shooting. As the story unfolds, we will keep you informed.
