This Weekend in Sports: The Masters and ‘The Ultimate Fighter 17′ Finale
The first major golf tournament of the 2013 PGA season and the finale of a mixed martial arts reality show highlight the upcoming sports calendar. Here's what to watch this weekend:
Friday, April 12
The Masters — Second Round
Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Ga. 3 p.m. (ET) on ESPN Friday; on CBS Saturday-Sunday
The best golfers in the world pursue the first major of the 2013 PGA Tour season at the Masters in Augusta, Ga., through Sunday. Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson are among the favorites. Defending champion Bubba Watson will look to retain his title.
Saturday, April 13
Atlanta Braves at Washington Nationals
Nationals Park, Washington, D.C.; 1:05 p.m. on Fox
Atlanta (8-1) is off to the best start of any major league team in 2013. Braves hurler Tim Hudson (1-0, 3.27) will take the mound against defending National League East champion Washington (6-2), led by Bryce Harper. Stephen Strasburg (1-1, 4.38) gets the start for the Nationals against a Braves lineup augmented by off-season acquisitions Justin and B.J. Upton.
NRA 500
Texas Motor Speedway, Fort Worth, Texas; 7:46 p.m. (ET) on Fox
Jimmie Johnson leads the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings as the drivers return to Texas for this weekend's race. Brad Keselowski trails Johnson by six points, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. 12 points off the lead in third place.
'The Ultimate Fighter 17' Finale
Mandalay Bay Events Center, Las Vegas; 9 p.m. (ET) on FX
Promising bantamweight Urijah Faber will fight Scott Jorgensen in a co-main event of the 17th edition of 'The Ultimate Fighter' reality competition show. Uriah Hall fights his Team Sonnen teammate Kelvin Gastelum in the other featured bout. Other fights include Travis Browne vs. Gabriel Gonzaga and Miesha Tate vs. Cat Zingano.
Sunday, April 14
Chicago Bulls at Miami Heat
American Airlines Arena, Miami, 1 p.m. (ET) on ABC
Chicago (42-35) faces Miami (62-16) for the first time since the Bulls stopped the Heat's 27-game winning streak last month. Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer spearhead the Chicago attack, while LeBron James and Dwyane Wade lead the Heat.
The Masters — Second Round
Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Ga. 3 p.m. (ET) on CBS
The first major golf tournament of 2013 moves to its final round. The winner of the Masters will don the green jacket given to each year's champion and join a host of legends who have won the sport's most prestigious event.
Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees
Yankee Stadium, Bronx, N.Y.; 8:05 p.m. (ET) on ESPN
Two teams that met in last season's American League Division Series duel, as the Baltimore Orioles (4-4) send Wei-Yin Chen (0-1, 3.75) to the mound to face the New York Yankees (4-4). With Mark Teixeira, Curtis Granderson, Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter all sidelined with injuries, the Yankees must rely on pitching to stay in the American League East race. Andy Pettitte (2-0, 1.20) gets the start for the Yanks on Sunday. He'll face Chris Davis, Adam Jones and the rest of Baltimore's young hitters.
