Update: Disturbing Case of Animal Cruelty: Retriever Found Wandering Lapeer County With Arrow in Head
Jim O’Dell, the Lake Orion man who found Gemma, the black retriever with an arrow in her head, thinking it might be a prank, says “My first thought was, is this a joke?” He called Lapeer County Animal Control, sat down a few feet away from Gemma and petted her after she walked over to him and put her head down. He volunteered to take her back to the office in his van when she could not be easily transported in the LCAC truck. O’Dell visited Gemma late last week at the facility where she is recovering following removal of the arrow. "I kind of feel lucky I was able to help," he said. "I think it's what most people would have done." He thinks she would be a great dog for someone if she goes up for adoption. O’Dell doesn’t have a dog and when asked if he would be interested in adopting Gemma, he said "I think I would." LCAC Chief Aimee Orn says O’Dell would be the first person considered if he’s interested.
