National Adopt A Shelter Pet Day is observed every year on April 30. It was created to raise awareness about the thousands of pets in shelters waiting for homes. If you're able to care for a pet, think about adopting from Lapeer County Animal Control, Genesee County Animal Control or your local shelter. Only forty percent of Michigan's counties were saving 90% or more of their homeless pet population in 2014. Click here for a map of save rates for homeless cats and dogs in Michigan by county.
