A 90 year-old man found out that feeding the homeless is against the law? How can that be?

Police in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, claim they are just enforcing the law and have charged a 90-year-old man for feeding the homeless for breaking a city ordinance which restricts citizens from giving food to them in public.

There were also a pair of ministers cited with 90 year-old, Arnold Abbott for feeding the homeless. All three could spend up to two months in jail for offering food to the needy.

Abbott tells this story of the arrest:

One of the police officers said, 'Drop that plate right now,' as if I were carrying a weapon. It's man's inhumanity to man is all it is."

It makes you wonder why a community would turn it's back on people in need, doesn't it? Punishing people for trying to give people the basic needs of life, just doesn't seem right, does it?
