Tellers at the Lapeer County Bank & Trust contacted the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office regarding a man visiting their branches with a large amount of change requesting to exchange it for paper currency. This led to the arrest of Jorge Ortiz in the burglary of Hickory Place Car Wash in Columbiaville. "There were buckets of quarters taken," said Lapeer County Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Jason Parks. The break-in happened at the 24-hour, self-service car wash when power was cut to the building and the office broken into through the roof. Deputies paid a visit to Ortiz's Columbiaville home near the car wash and arrested him.
