Woman Seriously Hurt After Crash with Oncoming Truck in Lapeer County
A 29-year-old woman was injured badly after a wind gust blew her vehicle across an icy road and into the path of an oncoming truck in Lapeer County.
MLive says the accident happened when Robin Bissett of Deckerville was traveling south on Van Dyke Road just north of Linck Road in Burnside Township early Tuesday morning. The Lapeer County Sheriff's Department says after a strong gust of wind, Bissett's pickup truck veered across an ice covered road and into oncoming traffic where she was hit head-on by a freightliner style box truck. Bissett's vehicle ended up in a ditch on one side of the road, while the truck ended up in the ditch on the other side of the road. After being freed from the vehicle, Bissett was taken to McLaren Lapeer Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was also taken to the hospital although his injuries were not as serious.
The Lapeer County Sheriff's Department believes that along with freezing rain and high winds, badly worn front tires may have contributed to the accident. Our thoughts go out to everyone involved in this accident.
