As an accomplished lifetime musician of Lapeer, I have always tried to keep up with the latest up-and-coming artists in the area throughout the years. And thanks to Y.M.C. (Young Musicians Community)'s efforts working with the 3rd Degree Burns Band, it has been easy to do.

What is YMC in Lapeer?

YMC stands for Young Musicians Community. Its humble beginnings date back to a home in Hadley back in 2004 where founder and musical director Gary Burns, his kids, nieces, nephews and their friends decided to make some music. One year of dedicated practice later, they booked their first appearance at an Open House in Imlay City.

Today, almost 20 years later, over 400 young musicians have participated in the YMC. And those who stick with it are promoted from the '1st Degree Burns' band, where they learn the absolute basics of their instruments, to the '2nd Degree Burns' band where they continue to hone their craft and begin to learn (and perform) actual songs.

What Is The 3rd Degree Burns Band?

Assuming the kids stick with it and continue to practice through the 1st and 2nd Degree band stages, the final promotion puts them in the band they've been working to reach.  The 3rd Degree Burns band is the pinnacle for the most accomplished musicians on the team that are marketed the most for venues.

Today, 3rd Degree Burns includes over 60 members and performs almost every weekend from June to September all over the state of Michigan.

Some of their biggest venues include Royal Oak Arts Beats & Eats, the Ann Arbor Art Fair, Frankenmuth Auto Fest, Lapeer Days, and many other events in the mid-Michigan area.

Where To See the Next Performance

The next 3rd Degree Burns performance will be part of the 'Time Machine Tour' sponsored by YMC. The event is set to take place on Saturday, April 29th at Lapeer High School at 933 S. Saginaw Street from 5-8pm.

Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are only $5.00 and can be purchased at the door. But, if you would like to get your tickets in advance, you can contact Gary Burns directly at 810-441-6672.

And something to keep in mind, not only do ticket purchases help the cause and give you an incredible evening of great classic rock & roll performed by talented young musicians from all over Lapeer County, but proceeds also go toward the Rock & Raffle where a possibility of four $500 prizes and four $1000 prizes will be awarded.*

*DISCLAIMER: 1000 tickets MUST be sold, or the drawing will be limited to only one Grand Prize of $1000. So, if you're looking to support local aspiring young musicians in mid-Michigan, you can get involved by attending this event.
