“So many vets don’t realize all the benefits they’ve earned the minute they put on the uniform of the U.S. military” says Veterans Affairs Director for Lapeer County, Edward L. Ronders. I can relate because I didn’t look into veterans benefits until last year. The Lapeer County Department of Veterans Affairs will hold an Open House tomorrow (5/21) from 11 AM to 2 PM. The Veterans Affairs office provides counseling, prepares, submits and monitors disability and pension claims, assists veterans in qualifying for VA health care and even arranges transportation for veterans to facilities in Saginaw, Detroit and Ann Arbor or to outpatient clinics in Yale and Flint. “We urge vets, their families, resource providers and public officials to stop in, have a cup of coffee and kick the tires, so to speak. They can learn about what we do and what benefits are available to veterans.” The event will be held at the Department Office, 287 W Nepessing Street, Suite 2 in downtown Lapeer. Light refreshments will be served.
