Veterans experience pain, much of it attributable to their military service. Some experience acute pain. Others experience chronic pain that seems never ending. Veterans are especially susceptible to pain as a result of combat related injuries and trauma suffered during training and other exercises.
With opioid use increasing, a number of issues have cropped up in recent years, prompting the VA to address the situation to help veterans address both acute and chronic pain. The VA’s focus with pain management is to try and safely decrease the dosages of opioids (narcotics) or eliminate them by introducing veterans to integrated therapies such as yoga, massage therapy, aqua therapy, tai chi and many others.
